Probably Stolen Appraisal: Jobs, Fees and Grades
Appraisal is a service business: a customer brings you an Appraisal Item, you inspect it and submit an estimate, and the customer pays a fee based on your accuracy. You are not buying the item. The system begins when you join the Appraisers Board and display an Appraisal Certificate in your shop.

Quick answer
In a normal start, the Appraiser Board Member visits on Day 8. With Skip Intro, the visit occurs on Day 5. Pay the membership fee, place the Junior Certificate in a Display Case, inspect a customer's item with the Magnifying Glass, calculate its value from the matching Guide, and enter the result in Appraisal Service.
How to unlock appraisal jobs
The Board Member offers membership during the early game. The current joining fees are:
| Difficulty | Joining fee |
|---|---|
| Price Gouge | 85 credits |
| Mark Up | 85 credits |
| Thin Margins | 170 credits |
| Red Ink | 255 credits |
Choosing Ask Later postpones the offer for about seven days. Declining ends the invitation, so do not use Decline if you only need more time to save the fee.
After joining, you receive the training material, Magnifying Glass, Cybernetic Hand Guide, and Junior Certificate.
How to get appraisal customers
Put your current Appraisal Certificate in a Display Case. Keeping the certificate in storage does not activate the service.
The Junior Certificate has a 33% base daily customer chance, a 20-credit Base Fee, and initially covers the Cybernetic Hand. The chance rises after days without an appraisal customer, but the important practical rule is simple: leave the certificate displayed and keep space available for the service.
How to appraise an item step by step
- Select the customer's Appraisal Item.
- Use the Magnifying Glass and record every visible feature.
- Open the Guide for that exact item type.
- Start with the listed starting value.
- Apply every modifier for material, condition, interfaces, attachments, packaging, or complete-set requirements.
- Respect the listed minimum value.
- Enter the calculated amount in Appraisal Service and choose Send Estimate.
- Read the Appraisal Slip to see the true value, your estimate, grade, and fee.
Do not estimate from appearance or rarity alone. A missing connector, damaged wrapper, or incomplete set can change the result, and a minimum value can override the raw arithmetic.
Appraisal grades and rejected estimates
Your grade depends on the estimate as a percentage of the item's real value:
| Grade | Accepted estimate range | Service fee |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect | 95%–105% | 15% of item value |
| Excellent | 90%–95% or 105%–110% | 12% |
| Good | 85%–90% or 110%–115% | 10% |
| Mediocre | 75%–85% or 115%–125% | 8% |
| Awful | 50%–75% or 125%–150% | 5% |
An estimate below 50% or above 150% is refused. If a number looks reasonable but is still rejected or graded poorly, recheck the minimum value and any modifier that applies when a feature is absent.
Appraiser ranks and promotion
| Rank | Base fee | Points needed for next promotion |
|---|---|---|
| Junior | 20 | 100 |
| Appraiser | 40 | 150 |
| Senior | 60 | 250 |
| Master | 100 | — |
Perfect, Excellent, Good, Mediocre, and Awful results provide different progress. On Mark Up, a Perfect Junior appraisal gives 10 points, so ten Perfect results reach the 100-point promotion threshold. Difficulty modifiers affect progress on other settings. Once the certificate shows Promotion Ready, wait for the Board's next step rather than assuming the rank changes instantly.
Higher certificates unlock additional appraisal items. Because the developer plans to add more appraisal content, use the current in-game Guide whenever a fixed online value table disagrees with your version.
Common appraisal mistakes
- Leaving the Certificate in storage instead of a Display Case.
- Confusing Appraisal Service with Counterfeit Check.
- Forgetting the minimum value.
- Applying only positive features and ignoring penalties for missing parts.
- Using a Demo-era item table or the old 85/170 two-tier fee description.
- Entering a price before checking every Magnifying Glass detail.
Starting value and minimum value are separate checks
Treat the matching Appraisal Guide as the calculation sheet for the item in front of you. First list the features revealed by inspection, then apply the listed adjustments to the starting value. Finally check the minimum; stopping at the raw sum can produce an estimate that is too low even when every subtraction was correct.
Keep item valuation separate from your service payment. The estimate describes what the customer's item is worth, while the grade and certificate determine the service outcome. The percentage fee in the grade table is not permission to enter that smaller fee as the estimate.
For an arithmetic example only, suppose an item's confirmed true value were 200 credits. The documented Perfect interval would be 200 × 0.95 through 200 × 1.05, or 190–210 credits. This explains the percentage rule; it does not claim that a particular generated item always has a value of 200.
Diagnosing an appraisal problem
If no jobs arrive, start with the display requirement before changing your calculation method. The Certificate must be in a Display Case, and the Junior 33% figure is a base chance rather than a guaranteed daily appointment. A day without a customer does not by itself demonstrate a broken service.
If a customer arrives but the result is poor, use the Appraisal Slip to separate your estimate from the true value and grade. Recheck the item's own Guide, omitted conditions, and minimum value. Appraisal Service submits a valuation; Counterfeit Check handles a different question and is not a substitute for this calculation.
If progress seems slower than a video example, check difficulty before expecting promotion after ten jobs. Ten Perfect Junior results reach the recorded threshold on Mark Up. That scoped example does not establish an identical job count on every difficulty.
What still needs confirmation
待确认 (Pending confirmation): exact customer-chance increments after unsuccessful days, the full difficulty-specific promotion-exam fee table, and current exam answers. Future appraisal items and modifier changes also need a fresh check against their updated Guides. This page does not supply guessed exam solutions or a permanent item-value database.
