Probably Stolen Junk: Scrap Conversion and Uses
Junk is a common scavenging resource with a low direct sale value and a useful processing route. Install a Junk Processing Module in a Furnace, provide 6 Junk, and leave the machine without a normal smelting task that night to obtain 4 Scrap Metal.

Where to find Junk
The Dumping Ground is the most common source. Ordinary scavenging frequently produces Junk alongside more valuable materials. Fresh Dump events change the loot mix, so you should not expect a fixed quantity from every trip.
Current item data gives Junk a base value of 3 credits. Actual transactions depend on buyers and modifiers, making direct sales a small source of cash rather than a complete production strategy.
Junk and Scrap Metal
These are separate items. Scrap Metal can enter normal Furnace smelting recipes; raw Junk needs the dedicated processing module first. Placing Junk in an unmodified Furnace will not create metal.
The processing chain is:
6 Junk → Junk Processing Module overnight → 4 Scrap Metal → normal smelting on a later night.
How to process Junk
- Install the Furnace's Junk Processing Module.
- Provide at least six pieces of Junk in the supported input arrangement.
- Check the Furnace's operating requirements, including power.
- Remove any normal smelting batch if your goal is Junk conversion.
- Leave output space and end the day.
- Collect four Scrap Metal the next morning.
Normal smelting takes priority over Junk Processing. The machine cannot perform both jobs in parallel that night.
Should you sell, convert, or save Junk?
Sell when you urgently need cash and have neither processing nor repair demand. Convert when you own the module and can use or sell the resulting Scrap Metal. If you operate a Makeshift Reactor, check its repair interface before disposing of your entire reserve: current community data lists Junk among its repair materials.
Avoid buying processing equipment solely because you have one small stack. Compare the module's displayed price with the number of batches you can realistically supply and sell.
Why Junk is not processing
- The Furnace lacks the Junk Processing Module.
- Fewer than six pieces are available.
- A normal metal batch takes priority that night.
- Power or output capacity is missing.
- You expected conversion during the day rather than overnight.
Follow the resource chain one stage at a time
Raw Junk, Scrap Metal, and Metal Ingots are separate outputs with different processing requirements. Six Junk becoming four Scrap Metal completes the module's job. It does not mean the Furnace should also deliver ingots from those same pieces that night.
If you want ingots, plan a later normal smelting batch. The Furnace guide records two matching metal inputs per basic batch, so four Scrap represent enough input for two basic batches as arithmetic. This does not establish that your configured Furnace processes both in one night; throughput is a separate question.
Choose the use that fits your equipment
Without the Junk module, collecting six pieces does not unlock conversion. You can keep them for a later module, sell to a compatible buyer, or inspect a reactor repair requirement. The best decision depends on cash needs and equipment you already operate.
The 3-credit base value is a data reference, not a promise that every customer pays three per piece. Likewise, the four Scrap output is a recipe quantity rather than a guaranteed profit. Compare displayed prices and the eventual use of Scrap before buying equipment solely to clear storage.
Diagnose an ignored stack
Confirm that the installed module is specifically Junk Processing. Then check the six-piece requirement and whether a normal smelting recipe was active. Priority can explain why metal was processed while Junk remained untouched.
After that, check operating conditions and output space. Adding more Junk does not change task priority. Allow an eligible night and inspect the Scrap before moving to normal smelting.
Repair and scavenging limits
The supplied research lists Junk as a Makeshift Reactor repair material, with less detailed support than the conversion recipe. Inspect the repair UI before reserving a precise quantity. Fresh Dump changes the scavenging mix, but this guide does not guarantee a specific haul.
待确认 (Pending confirmation): the module's current supplier and price, exact reactor repair consumption, and Fresh Dump weights across difficulties. These gaps prevent a universal equipment-payback calculation or fixed scavenging-yield table.
FAQ
What is Junk used for?
Low-value sales, conversion into Scrap Metal, and certain Makeshift Reactor repairs.
How much Scrap Metal does Junk produce?
The module converts six Junk into four Scrap Metal during an eligible night.
Is Junk useless without a Furnace?
It can still be sold to compatible buyers or reserved for a repair requirement. Check your route before clearing all of it.
